Another super year for Bulabos Saint Bernard’s in the show ring. Attending only 16 Irish Championship Show this year (less than half) we are delighted that Chloe “Ir Ch, Intl Ch Bulabos Just A Flirt, Ir Jnr Ch, CJW’14 can now add Annual Champion 201 to her titles! Chloe also gained her International Champion Title this year. The Lovely Lilly “Ir Ch Bulabos Glass Slipper” finished the year as the top winning female Saint Bernard (LH) in Ireland. From 16 shows attended Bulabos took 40 Green Stars, multiple Reserve Green Stars, CACIB’s, Best of Breeds, Reserve Best of Breeds, Group Shortlisting’s, Group Placing’s and a fabulous Group win and 4th Best in Show for Jack “Ir Ch Bulabos Jack of Diamonds”. We also have a new champion, JJ “Ir Ch Bulabos The Ice Man”. Across the seas in the UK we had the privilege of being awarded Bitch CC and Reserve Best of Breed with Lilly under breed specialist Ms Hazel Needham. A very proud moment and one achieved by so few Irish Saint Bernard Breeders with their own breeding. Not forgetting “Jack” who took Dog CC and BOB at Windsor Championship Show 2016 under breed specialist Mr Tan Nagrecha. Thank you to the all of the judges who recognised our dogs throughout the year and a special word of thanks to Dione Fitzsimmons (Fitzkin Dobermans) for all her continued help and support - a rock as always. Thanks also to Laura Whan and Stephanie Kelly for stepping in when the need arose. All in all – not a bad year for Bulabos !
The cream always rises to the top
We are thrilled to announce that our very lovely Lilly became a mummy to 10 fabulous puppies on the 3rd December. Sadly one little girl born sleeping and one little girl who passed to the bridge within days. We have 2 very pretty little girls and 6 handsome boys who are now thriving and doing. Lilly has been a super Mummy and has does herself proud. Sire to the littler is our young smooth coat boy Harry “Bulabos Black Ice”. Harry is a son of JJ “Ir Ch Bulabos The Ice Man” and Mille “Just Call Me Transylvania Giant”. We look forward to seeing these puppies blossom.
On the 15th July we said goodbye to our one and only Mia. We are thanking that she did not suffer and she passed to the Bridge without any pain. She truly was amazing in every sense. A beautiful representation of the breed but more than that – a beautiful soul. She leaves a void that will never be filled but we are grateful that she lives on in her offspring. We are truly thankful to Jackie Jenkins of Islamorada Kennel (Scotland) for allowing us the privilege of having Mia in our family.
“Perhaps they are not stars but openings in Heaven, where the love of our children with fur pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are at peace”
Saturday 2nd July was working group day at the prestigious Windsor Championship Show in the UK. We travelled only with Jack and were over the moon when Jack won Dog CC and Best of Breed under renowned breed specialist Mr Tan Nagrecha. This is Jack’s first CC in the UK and we are over the moon with this achievement. Thank you to Tan Nagrecha for thinking so highly of Jack.
Fermoy International Championship Show & South Tipperary Championship Show 30th April & 1st May 2016Posted on January 21st, 2017
WOW WOW WOW…..What an absolute fantastic weekend for Bulabos. Saturday was Fermoy Canine Club International Show which took place in our hometown of Clonmel. Our Breed judge was Mr Paulsen (Norway). All four green stars, four CACIB’s and two Best of Breeds and two Reserve Best of Breeds went to Bulabos. Jack and Lilly took Green Star Dog and Bitch and both CACIB’s (LH) with Jack taking Best of Breed and Lilly taking Reserve Best of Breed, JJ and Chloe take Green Star Dog and Bitch and both CAICB’s (SH) with JJ taking Best of Breed and Chloe taking Reserve Best of Breed. Jack then goes all the way and WINS GROUP 2 under group Judge Dr. Hjorth (Norway) and 4th BEST IN SHOW under Mrs Noreen Clarke (Ireland)!!!! This is a fantastic achievement given that Jack’s Best of Breed and Group win was awarded by two International Judges based solely on the calibre of Jack as a representation of the breed. A very big thank you to Mrs Noreen Clarke for awarding Jack 4th Best in Show. Sunday a short drive to Thurles for he South Tipperary Canine Club Championship Show where Jack and Lilly once again take both Green Stars (LH) with Jack taking Best of Breed and Lilly taking Reserve Best of Breed. Jack went on to take a very nice group 4th under group judge Mr K. Lovell. What a fantastic weekend and certainly one to remember.
We are thrilled and very proud to say that our lovely Lilly “Ir Ch Bulabos Glass Slipper Ir Jnr Ch” won the Bitch CC and Reserve Best of Breed at Crufts 2016 under breed specialist judge Ms Hazel Needham on Saturday 12th March. This is a huge achievement for us as breeders and is testament to the quality girl that Lilly is. She came 1st in a very strong open class which in the words of our breed judge Hazel Thomas, “was the strongest class of the day” and included the two top group winning Saint Bernard Bitches in the UK at the moment, the Dog of The Year winner in the UK for 2016 and the Annual Champion in Ireland for 2016. For Lilly to have won this class is an achievement in itself but she went all the way and took the Bitch CC from a line up of lovely bitches and took Reserve Best of Breed to the Dog CC Winner. It was such a tiring weekend but as always it was great to catch up with friends, old and new and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Certainly a day to remember but hopefully the first of many!
On the 13th January we had to make the hard and painful decision to help our beautiful boy Robbie over the bridge after a short illness. Our hearts are truly broken. Robbie was a stunning ambassador of the breed. He represented everything that a dog should be. He was admired by many and those who knew him were smitten with him. He had a heart of gold and temperment second to none. He loved everyone and everyone loved him. As a show dog, although he gained several titles, he never truly got the recognition that he deserved. Most importantly, as a companion and member of our furry family he is irreplaceable. His final resting place is his favourite spot in the garden where he loved to soak up the sun on a warm day. Rest in peace big man until we meet again XX
“As much as I loved the life and all the times we played,
I was so very tired and knew my time on earth would fade.
I saw a wondrous image then of a place that’s trouble free
where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.
I saw the most beautiful rainbow, and on the other side
were meadows rich and beautiful – lush and green and wide!
And running through the meadows as far as the eye could see
were animals of every sort as healthy as could be!
My own tired, failing body was fresh and healed and new
and I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do.
I needed to reach out to you, to tell you I’m alright.
That this place is truly wonderful, then a bright glow pierced the night.
Twas the glow of many candles shining bright and strong and bold
and I knew then that it held your love in its brilliant shades of gold.
For although we may not be together in the way we used to be,
We are still connected by a cord no eye can see.
So whenever you need to find me, we’re never far apart,
if you look beyond the Rainbow and listen with your heart.”
The end of another year and the beginning of a new one. In 2015 we had some wonderful highs with our dogs but also some very personal lows. With very limited showing Bulabos added three new Irish Champions, two new Irish Junior Champions a Celtic Junior Winner and multiple Green Stars & Best of Breeds. Here’s t0 a happy, healthy and successful 2016.
